Turning an Hourglass into a Diamond: Inter-organizational Collaborative Work in the Enterprise of the Future

چکیده

One of the major challenges for the enterprise of the future is how to support inter-organizational collaborative work in a way that is efficient and responsive to environmental changes. In this paper we analyze how the introduction of key technologies for computer-mediated communication has the potential to transform organizational structures and improve productivity for inter-organizational collaborative work. Our analysis is based on an industrial case study backed up by hands-on experiences from many years of inter-organizational collaborative work. Furthermore, to support our analysis we present a novel taxonomy of collaboration technology, which classifies tools according to interactivity, team distribution and media richness.
